Abstract

An analytical method using silica gel chemically modified with 2-aminothiophenol for preconcentration of Copper, in a column system, and its sequential determination by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS), was developed. A solution of Copper passed through a glass column packed with the sorbent material, at pH 5.0, and Copper eluted with HNO3 at a flow rate of 2.0 ml min-1. A 0.125 ng/ml detection limit for the preconcentration of aqueous solution of Copper was obtained. The relative standard deviation (RSD) for eight replicate determination at 1.0 μg/ml Copper level was 1.8%. This method was successfully applied for determination of Copper in various samples.
