Cu/ZnO composite nanoparticles with 10wt% Cu impurity were prepared by the use of sol- gel and gel combustion methods and their anti-microbial activity against the Escherichia coli (E.coli) as a microbial specimen was examined. The analyze of the precursor powders was done by X-ray powder diffractometry (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) in order to characterize the structural of the nanoparticles. An average nanocrystallite size of 21nm was obtained for Cu0.1Zn0.9O, as estimated by the Scherrer s equation. TEM images revealed the formation of nanoparticles, which were distributed homogeneously in the ZnO matrix. Nanoparticles also, inhibited the growth of E. coli significantly.
