The Turkmen horse is one of old ancient and famous breeds of horse. Echocardiography is a valuable non-invasive tool that is used to evaluate cardiac chamber size, wall thickness, wall motion, valvular anatomy, valve motion, the proximal great vessels and the pericardium. Because of Cardiac function is an effective cause on exercise performance; echocardiographic evaluation can helpful for prognosticating of exercise performance. The purpose of this study was to find Pulsed wave Doppler echocardiographic values of Maximum Velocity (Vmax) and Velocity Time Integral (VTI) of aorta in normal Turkmen horse. 25 healthy adult full blooded Turkmen horse with age average 6.16 years old (STDEV=3.25) and weight average 366 Kg (STDEV=35.2) were included in this study. Echocardiographic examination was performed using a 1-5 MHz phase array transducer, Sonosite, Micromax ultrasound machine. After shaving and cleaning hair of left 4th intercostals space between midway point of shoulder and point of elbow, by the use of ultrasound coupling gel, B-mode and pulsed wave echocardiography of aorta was carried out on left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) view from mentioned approach. Simultaneous electrocardiography was performed during the echocardiographic examination at base-apex lead. All of imaging stages was recorded, digitally. In this study, averages of values Vmax and VTI of aorta were measured 101.94 cm/s (STDEV=15.34) and 33.9 cm (STDEV=5.28), respectively. These values can be used standard and reference values for evaluation of vascular disorders of the Turkmen horse.
