Abstract
Hyperthrophic cardiomyopathy is an unusual cardiovascular disorder in cat with appearance of chronic cardiopulmonary distress. A 3-years old collapsed Persian cat with the complaint of chronic cachexia, lethargy and anorexia was referred with the history of recurrent respiratory distress. After clinical examinations, hematological, radiographic and ultrasonographic evaluations were carried out. Hematological findings underscored no sign of acute infection, hematologic or biochemical abnormalities. Lateral and dorsoventral (DV) radiographs have showed severe generalized cardiomegaly. In B-mode and M-mode echocardiography, left ventricular free wall thickness was larger than 0.6 mm that was suggestive of hypertghophic cardiomypathy. The severity;. of the disease was lessened following long term administration of enalapril (0.25-0.5 mg/kg BW, tdd, PO) and occasional diuretic therapies with rurosemide (1-4 mg/kg BW, im) or chlorothiazide (20-40 mg/kg BW, PO), depending on the severity of clinical signs in each cardiopulmonary collapse episode. These supportive treatments delayed the dead time for another additional year. The necropsy rinding also confirmed the myocardial hyperthrophy.
