Abstract

In order to improve heat transfer characteristics of turbine oils used in turbo compressors of Razavi gas compressor station facilities, nanoalumina particles have added into turbine oil. An experimental set up was made to measure the heat transfer coefficient and Nusselt number of turbine oil by addition of nanoalumina particles. The nanofluids prepared by adding less than 1% volume concentration of nanoparticles. The flow was in laminar regime and measurements were carried out under constant heat flux boundary condition. Experimental results indicated that addition of nanoalumina increase the mean heat transfer coefficient of turbine oil by a maximum value of 28%. The heat transfer augmentation of turbine oil improved by increasing of Peclet Number and nanoparticle volume concentration.
