Abstract An abstract no longer than 250 words for reviews and research articles. Abstract should be structured as: Objectives Nowadays, nanoparticles have been improved as a result of truly important recent advances by applying “green chemistry” rules to nanotechnology and materials science. Metallic nanoparticles such as silver nanoparticles have been widely used during the past few years in various applications, such as biomedicine, biosensor, and catalysis. The use of eco-friendly reagents, such as starch and maltose, provides green and economic attributes to this work. Materials and methods Silver nanoparticles have been synthesized with simple and green synthesis method by reducing Ag+ ions in aqueous starch media with and in the absence of maltose as a reducing agent. Silver nitrate, starch, and maltose have been used as silver source, stabilizer, and reducing agent, respectively. Results This study investigated the experimental conditions (e.g. Ag+, starch, and maltose concentrations, pH, and reaction temperature) to obtain the narrow size, monodispersed, and stable metal nanoparticles. Furthermore, the hydrolysis rate of starch was studied in determination of kinetic formation of nanoparticles. The resultant products have been confirmed to be silver nanoparticles by UV-Vis spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Conclusion The optimized experimental conditions for preparing of silver nanoparticles were investigated in this work. Starch as green stabilizer/reducing agent has several advantages in comparison with other/or chemical agents, which include simplicity and safety at work, easy availability and low cost. The newly prepared Ag-NPs may have many potential applications in medical, chemical, and biological industries.
