Thomas Friedman, foreign affairs columnist for The New York Times, following a trip to the East, and in response to developments of India and China in the field of science and technology, wrote, a book entitled \\\"The World is Flat\\\". He describes ten flatteners for this phenomenon: the collapse of the Berlin Wall, the emergence of Web browser, work flow software, Open sourcing, Outsourcing, Offshoring , Supply chain), Insourcing, In-forming and steroids (digital technologies, mobile, PC and virtual world. To accept that, the world, in its current state, is flat does not appear to be true. In the meantime, it is not logical to deny the beginning of the process of so called \\\"the flat world\\\". I do believe, in Friedman\\\'s analysis, a big flattening driver \\\"the biotechnology\\\" has been overlooked. Without the engine of economic development in developing and under-developing countries, the world can not be flat ground for the competition. The North - South Gap is the fruits of decades of relentless efforts of the West, following of the Renaissance and the Industrial Revolution. To fill the gap between the North and by conventional technologies is a difficult, time-consuming and not-logical process. Biotechnology, Nanotechnology and stem cell technology are among technologies which have created an invaluable opportunity for the South to fill the gap. The development of recombinant DNA technology to produce various products can be summarized in a microtube. In an optimistic estimate, that could happen in a small laboratory in a remote country. In this speech, various areas of biotechnology, including agriculture, animal husbandry, molecular medicine, forensic science, microbial genetics, environmental science, oil industry will be discussed. Furthermore, the potential role they may play in the development of the South will be explored and the strategies to achieve the goal will be proposed. Hoping, the country\\\'s political elite understand the potential role of biotechnology in the current situation of the flattening world. توماس فریدمن ستون نویس امور بین الملل روزنامه نیویورک تایمز، پیامد سفری به شرق، در واکنش به پیشرفت های هند و چین کتابی تحت عنوان \\\"جهان مسطح است\\\" را به رشته تحریر در می آورد .از نگاه او ده نیروی محرک تسطیح جهان کروی عبارتند از: فروپاشی دیوار برلین، ظهور مرورگر های وب، نرم افزار جریان کار (work flow software)، باز گذاشتن منابع (Open sourcing)، برون سپاری (Outsourcing)، استفاده از نیروی کار و تولید فرا مرزی (Offshoring)، زنجیره ای شدن عرصه محصولات (Supply chain) ، درون سپاری داخلی (Insourcing)، جستجو و دسترسی همگانی به اطلاعات (In-forming) و استروئید ها (فناوری های دیژیتال، موبایل، رایانه شخصی و دنیای مجازی). اینکه در وضعیت کنونی \\\"زمین مسطح است\\\" خود مورد مناقشه است . ولی انکار آغاز فرایند مسطح شدن زمین رفتاری نا بخردانه. به باور اینجانب فناوری زیستی به عنوان یک محرک عظیم بالقوه در مسطح نمودن جهان در تحلیل فریدمن نا دیده گرفته شده است. کشورهای در حال توسع بدون موتور محرکه اقتصادی نمی توانند در جهان مسطح وارد مسابقه ای برابر شوند. شکاف عمیق شمال- جنوب مرهون انقلاب صنعتی و رنسانس و چندین دهه تلاش بی وقفه تمدن غرب می باشد . جنوب برای نیل به سطح توسعه شمال با فناوری های مرسوم راهی دشوار و دراز را در پیش رو دارد. فن آوری های زیستی، نانو و یاخته بنیادی، بعنوان فن آوری های بی بدیل امروزین، در یک پیچ تاریخی، فرصتی استثنایی را در اختیار کشور های در حال توسعه قرار داده تا شکاف جند سده ای غرب و شرق را به سرعت پر نمایند. امروزه با توسعه فن آوری DNA نو ترکیب کل فن آوری تولید یک محصول می تواند در یک میکروتیوب خلاصه شود. در یک برآورد خوش بینانه، امری که می تواند در یک آزمایشگاه کوچک در یک کشور دور افتاده اتفاق افتد. در این گفتار عرصه های مختلف فن آوری زیستی از جمله کشاورزی، دامپروری، طب مولکولی، طب جنایی، ژنتیک میکروب ها، محیط زیست، صنعت نفت و نقشی که می توانند در تحول کشور های در حال توسعه ایفا نمایند، مورد کنکاش قرار گرفته و راهکارهای توسعه این فناوری پیشنهاد می گردد. باشد که این گفتار نخبگان سیاسی و اجرایی کشور را به نقش بالقوه فن آوری زیستی در تحول تاریخی کشور آشنا سازد..
