Abstract
In this paper, a computational method is established for acceleration control of phase interface motion during solidification of pure materials. Inverse heat transfer methods are applied to estimate the required time-dependent boundary conditions. Enthalpy formulation is applied to avoid the problem solution for solid and liquid phases separately. Conjugate gradient along with adjoint method is used to minimize the objective function. Zero (constant velocity) and constant interface accelerations are investigated. Results are validated with analytical solution that exists only for zero acceleration. For the other case the estimated boundary heat flux is taken as an input for direct solution and observed that desired acceleration is achieved.
