Abstract

In this research, The classic silver diethyldithiocarbamate (SDDC) spectrophotometric procedure has been used for investigation of the effect of organic solvents on chemical hydride generation of antimony. The results of this study showed that the presence of organic solvents such as acetonitrile (AN), dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), methanol (MeOH), ethanol (EtOH), and iso-Propanol (iso-ProH) in the sample matrix has a major influence on generation efficiency. Except DMSO, these solvents showed an increasing effect on the recorded absorbance in 510 nm. This increase was highest when AN was used as organic modifier in the percent volume of 30% of aqueous solution. In these conditions, all the operation parameters influencing the sensitivity of the method were optimized and the analytical performance of the method was evaluated. A calibration curve was obtained for antimony in a linear range of 5to 50μg with the detection limit of 2.29 μg. The method was applied for determination of antimony in real water samples.
