Morphological and Histochemical characterization of the abomasal epithelium in camel (Camelus dromedarius) was studied by light and scanning electron microscopic. The lining of the abomasum was divided into four regions consists of: Cardiac, Pseudocardiac, Fundic and Pyloric. The cardiac and pseudo-cardiac regions occupies a wide part of abomasum in camel approximately third-forth of abomasum. Anatomical study showed a small diverticulum's in the fundic region, this part covered by thick folds that separated by deep branching furrows. In histological study we observed that the mucosa has extensive folds (gastric folds). The surface is covered with small invaginations called gastric pits, which are continuous with the gastric glands. The mucosal surface is lined with tall simple columnar epithelium cells. Our histochemical observation indicated that in fundic region the neck cells are similar to those of other mammals produce acid mucins whereas the surface and pit epithelium cells produce neutral mucins. After remove of mucins that covered the epithelium by rubbing the mucosal surface with gloved finger, in SEM study we observed simple columnar epithelium cells; average length of this cell was 20 µm. Some epithelial cells together created structure like flower Body (FB). We observed FB in all surfaces of abomasum in camel. This structure with mucosa of abomasum building five- side structure similar to honey comb (HC). Average diameter of these HC structures was 30-40µm. In this study for the first time we observed FB and HC in abomasal epithelium of camel.
