Abstract
Protonation of reactive 1:1 intermediates produced in the reaction between triphenylphosphine and dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylate by 2-aminothiophenol leads to vinylphosphonium salts, which undergo Michael addition with thiophenolate anion to produce highly functionalized phosphonium ylides in excellent yields.
