Abstract
Abstract—Farid-Hranilovic (FH) have investigated the capacity of free space optical (FSO) channel, by considering the coherent input-output mutual information and maximizing the source entropy. In this paper, we derive a general upper bound for the capacity of FSO channel and determine an expression for discrete input distribution maximizing the obtained upper bound. We show that, our work subsumes the FH result in a special case. Using numerical illustrations, we compare our work with previous works.
