Abstract
Aim: The aim of this research, comparing factorial structure of research motivation in PhD and M.A. students was. Method: used method in this research was descriptive and a test making. For doing this, a sample (n= 280) from PhD and M.A. students in two important university of Northeast of Iran in 2010-2011, were selected. For gathering data, research motivation scale that based on self-determination theory was used. Results: Results of exploratory factor analysis showed that research motivation have three components in both samples. Reliability was satisfied; Reliability coefficient for first component (internal motivation) was (α=0/93), for second component (external motivation) was (α=0/88) and for final component (Amotivation) was (α=0/76). Thus, scale of research motivation with 7 subscales, does not fit. Also results by confirmatory factor analysis was show, scale was valid generally (NNFI=0/94, RSMEA= 0/08, χ2/df<3) with 3 subscales. Scale of research motivation was reliable and valid for both PhD and M.A. students.
