Abstract

A highly diastereoselective catalyst-free multicomponent Manich reaction between cyclohexanone, aromatic aldehydes and diamines is described. The product mixtures were found to contain only bis(β-aminocarbonyl) product in each case, which were isolated and purified by precipitation and crystallization. Reactions were occurred in 62-78% yields and good diasteroselectivity. The best selectivity was obtained where there are weak EWGs and ERGs on aldehyde. The reactivity decreases when strong EWGs and or ERGs are present on aldehyde. Aromatic diamines are more suitable than aliphatic diamines in this reaction. In these cases only corresponding imines are obtained in high yields.
