Abstract
Pumpkin (Cucurbitapepo L.) is an important medicinal plant that is used as a raw material for certain pharmaceutical products including Peponen and Gronfing capsules. In order to evaluate the impacts of different plant densities and planting patternson the quantitative and qualitative yields of pumpkin (Cucurbitapepo L.), a field experiment was conducted as factorial based on randomized block design with three replications at the Agricultural Research Station of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Iran, during the growing season of 2009-2010.Two plant densities (2.5 and 5 plants.m-2) and two planting patterns (one and two ways) were considered to the first and the second factors, respectively. The results indicated that the simple effects of plant density and planting method on seed and oil yields differed significantly. By increasing plant density from 2.5 to 5 plant.m-2 seed oil and oil yield was enhanced up to 14.7% and 15.5%, respectively. The two ways method increased seed yield (19.2%) and oil yield (16.4%) compared to one way method.
