Abstract
This book is a study of social and political situation of the Shi ite communities within the Arab world. It deals with a topic about which scholarly books can rarely be found. It is well written, and its descriptions and judgements are, in general, fair. It also contains policy recommendations, whether or not one agrees with them. However, it does not examine the raised issues in any real depth, and especially its account of the role of post-revolutionary Iran is not accurate.
