Abstract
Selective transport of Ag+ cation through a nitrobenzene bulk liquid membrane was studied by 15-crown-5 as an efficient carrier. The highest transport efficiency was obtained by investigating the influence of different parameters such as the nature of organic solvent as liquid membrane phase, concentration of 15-crown-5 in the membrane phase, concentration of picric acid as counter anion in the source phase, type of various stripping agents in the receiving phase, concentration of thiosulfate ion as a suitable stripping agent in the receiving phase, pH of the source , the volume of the receiving phase and the equilibrium time of transport process. Maximum transport value of 88.02 ± 0.78 % was observed for Ag+ ion after 8 hours, when its concentration was 4×10−4 M. The selectivity and efficiency of Ag+ cation transported from aqueous solutions containing equimolar mixtures of Cr3+, Co2+, Ni2+, Zn2+, Cd2+ and Pb2+ metal cations were also investigated.
