Abstract
Introduction and Objectives: Brucellosis is one of the most widespread zoonotic diseases globally. This chronic, contagious disease is mainly transmitted from cattle, sheep, goats, pigs and camels through direct contact with blood, placenta, fetuses or uterine secretions or through consumption of contaminated raw animal products. Brucellosis is endemic in Iran. The aim of this study was the comparison of serological tests iELISA with rose bengal for detection of brucellosis. Materials and methods: The blood specimens were collected from 92 cows (vaccinated and unvaccinated). Blood samples of 10 ml were obtained using a sterile vacutainer tube from the jugular veins of the cows and were divided into two tubes, the first containing the anticoagulant EDTA, the other without anticoagulant for serum separation. Subsequently, Blood in plain tube was centrifuged at 6000 rpm for 5 min to obtained serum samples. The serum samples were aliquoted and stored at −20°C until tested. The brucellosis diagnosis was established by indirect ELISA (iELISA) and Rose Bengal methods. Analysis of data was performed by using SPSS software. Results: In this investigation, frequency of brucellosis by using an indirect ELISA (iELISA) and Rose Bengal methods was 83.6 % (77) and 77.1 % (71) respectively. The specificity and sensitivity of iELISA was higher than that of Rose Bengal test. Conclusion: Prevention of brucellosis mainly involves education and control food and personal hygiene. Efforts should be made by responsible authorities to make practical phones. The results of this study showed specificity and sensitivity of indirect ELIZA (iELISA) test is more than that of rose Bengal method. So, brucellosis diagnosis by using of these two test is recommended.
