Abstract
The effects of seed size on seed germination, and seedling survival of twenty- four Lentil genotypes were studied in this study. Lentils are classified into two groups by seed size. The large seeded Chilean type (Macro) has a seed size that averages 50 grams or more per 1000 seeds. The small seeded (Micro) Persian type has a seed size that averages 40 grams or less per 1000 seeds. Germination parameters were significantly related to seed weight and large seeds germinated early and showed better germination than small seeds under laboratory conditions. Germination rates were higher in the largerseeded species than the smaller-seeded species. Among these genotypes, MLC5 and MLC10 also had the fastest median germination time, however, the highest root and shoot length was measured the CV. Thus, it can be concluded that large seeds in MLC10 have better germination and survival, and the larger the seed, the larger the average seedling would be in seedling diameter, height and dry weight.
