Borage (Borago officinalis L.) is an important medicinal plant that is grown for its Gamma Linolenic Acid, contained in the seed oil which is used for skin disorders including eczema, seborrheic dermatitis and neurodermatiti. In order to investigate the growth characteristics and flower number of borage (Borago officinalis L.), a field experiment was conducted as split plot based on a complete randomized block design with three replications at the Agricultural Research Station, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad during growing season of 2012-2013. Three irrigation levels such as 1000 (I1), 2000 (I2) and 3000 (I3) m3.ha-1 and four plant densities including 16 (D1), 20 (D2), 26.67 (D3) and 40 (D4) plants.m-2 were allocated to the main and sub plots, respectively. Criteria such as plant heightmax, leaf area indexmax (LAImax) and flower number at three stages of borage were measured accordingly. Result showed that simple effect of plant densities and irrigation levels were significant (p≤ 0.05) on plant heightmax, LAImax and flower number at three stages. These traits significantly affected by interaction between plant density and irrigation. The highest and the lowest LAImax were observed in I3D1 and I1D1 with 2.51 and 1.01, respectively. The maximum flower number at the first, the second and the third sampling stages were recorded in I1D3 with 99.67, 156.67 and 201.67 flowers.m-2, respectively.
