Abstract
Since the discovery of the antibacterial penicillium, there has been a huge interest in finding new natural and synthetic organic compounds with antibacterial activity.[1] Nalidixic acid was the first quinolone used as antibacterial agent. Later structural modifications on their basic structure goes to new compounds with improved antibacterial activity such as ciprofloxacin and ofloxacin.[2]We focused on new functions that improved the antibacterial activity of these fluoroquinolones. Based on this strategy,we synthesis new pyrimidine derivatives of ciprofloxacin. Also on the structure of pyrimidine ring we have three positions that can change with different electron-donating, electron-withdrawing and alkyl groups. This miscellaneous substitutions help us to reach different compounds that are synthetic antibacterial compounds and have a wide application for use in the treatment of various bacterial infections. It is believed that their mode of action involves inhibition of bacterial DNA gyrase.[3] O
