Abstract
In this study, adsorption of doxorubicin anticancer drug on the magnetic/silica core shell nanocomposite is investigated. The main core of the particles is composed of superparamagnetic iron oxides (Fe3O4) microsphere which was synthesized by applying a very simple solvothermal method. The shell of the nanocomposites contains silica that are functionalized with amine and folic acid groups to produce a strong interaction between drug and nanocomposite. The size of the core shell nanocomposite was checked with dynamic light scattering (DLS) analyses that shows a unique particle size around 41 nm. This particle size is appropriate for drug delivery systems. The presence of the functional groups was checked using FTIR analysis. The adsorption efficiency of the drug was calculated using UV visible analysis. Adsorption results show that doxorubicin drug is adsorbed on the nanocomposite surface with 81% efficiency.
