Pseudomonas aeruginosa ut the world. It thrives not only in normal made environments througho-, and most manskin florawater, atmospheres, and has, thus, colonized many natural and artificial hypoxicatmospheres, but also in environments. The traditional herbal medical system has been practiced globally from ancient times; consequently, a great volume of literature is available on the antimicrobial activity of a variety of plant species. Satureja bachtiarica Bunge, a member of Lamiaceae family, is an endemic plant that is greatly distributed in southern regions in Iran. It is well known for its medical uses in folk medicine. Satureja bachtiarica has a relatively wide distribution in Iran and has been collected from West, Central and Southwest provinces of Iran. In this study, Satureja bachtiarica was collected from Shahrekord (Chaharmahal va Bakhtiari, Iran). The extract was prepared by maceration 1 g sample was extracted with 50 mL ethanol 96˚ for 24 h. After extraction with ethanol, antimicrobial effect of extract was determined by "Screening Antibacterial Activity" and "Disk Agar Diffusion Test" in 10, 20, 30 and 40 mg/ml of the extract against pseudomonas aeruginosa PTCC 1310. All the assays were carried out in triplicates. The experimental results were expressed as mean ± standard deviation. The data were analysed using one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) using SPSS version 18. The results showed that Satureja bachtiarica extract in screening antibacterial activity method in 2000 μg/ml, no inhibit pseudomonas aeruginosa growth. In "Disk Agar Diffusion Test, Satureja bachtiarica ethanolic extract, in 30 and 40 mg/ml, the mentioned extract have shown inhibition of pathogen growth, but there was no inhibitry on 10 and 20 mg/ml. In conclusion The ethanolic extract of Satureja bachtiarica “in vitro” has a significant antimicrobial effect on gram-negative bacteria pseudomonas aeruginosa.
