In this work, we synthesized graphene oxide nano sheets via bath ultrasonic irradiation (GO-U) under different condition in a facile and fast procedure and compared specific surface area and other characteristics of these samples with graphene oxide obtained via classic method (GO-C). Measured characters involved UV–vis, FT-IR, XRD, TEM, TG, and Raman spectroscopy techniques to measure characters of GO samples. According to XRD analysis, GO-U samples showed fewer layers than (GO-C). The UV–vis results showed an absorption peak at 225-230 nm for all samples. The FT-IR presented the oxygenated functional groups on graphene oxide sheets. A reduction in size of the in-plane sp² domains was observed by Raman spectrum. The TG analysis indicated graphene oxide obtained with 20 min ultrasonic irradiation (GO-U20) has further more oxygenated functional groups on its surface and TEM observations confirmed the synthesis of GO nanosheets and showed smaller sheet size of graphene oxide obtained with 50 min ultrasonic irradiation (GO-U50). Investigating of specific surface area with BET method indicated GO-U samples showed larger surface area. Next, we compared photocatalytic activity of composites involves different kinds of GO in degradation of pollutant, results showed GO-U samples degrade pollutant faster than GO-C. Totally, studying all characters Specified GO-Us are better than GO-C and among GO-U samples, (GO-U20) is the best in all characters. Therefore, the sonochemical approach for the synthesis of graphene oxide nanosheets is relatively fast, simple, cost-effective and efficient as compared to classical method and has larger surface area.
