Abstract
The adhesion and proliferation of bacteria on the metallic surfaces were developed in different places such as health centers, industries and even homes. These bacteria increase the risk of human infections. In the present research, mild steel as a substrate was coated by Ni-P layer through electro-less plating to prevent the surface corrosion. In order to access an antibacterial metallic surface, simultaneous sono-synthesis and deposition of ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) were performed on Ni-P coating. The morphology and chemical composition of ZnO coated plate were characterized by spectroscopy scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern confirmed the ZnO was pure and showed a hexagonal structure. The antibacterial activity assay of electro-less Ni-P coating against E. coli O157:H7 showed somewhat biological activity but, the plate containing ZnO NPs effectively prohibited the growth of E. coli. The ZnO attached surface by reduction of colonization could be utilized for the antibacterial purposes.
