Taking advantage of some narrative Shi‘i commentaries and mystical principles, the present research deals with four propounded questions about verses 42-43 of the Qur’anic chapter al-Qalam. Applying the traditions mentioned under the verse ‘The day that the shin shall be laid bare and they shall be summoned to bow in adoration’ as well as the transmutation hadith (ḥadith-i taḥawwul), the authors believe that the interpretation of ‘laying shin bare’ (kashf ‘an sāq) is associated with divine theophany in the form of Perfect Man. Based on the transmutation hadith, God irradiates on the Day of Judgment in terms of doctrinal perceptions and is recognized by all creatures with the usual perception in their world. However, the Day of Judgment is the realm where real monotheists are detached from others. Hence, a particular manifestation is needed by which the monotheists shall start prostrating while others would fail to do so. In some traditions the expression ‘the shin of the throne’ (sāq al-‘arsh) is interpreted as the place of collectedness between the light of Oneness (tawhīd) and the light of Muḥammad; also, the expression ‘Our God will lay bare His shin,’ which is quoted in some sources, can be deemed ambiguous and interpreted as the epiphany of universal sainthood.
