Reaction delay of the drivers is an indispensable factor for modeling vehicle movements. In this pa- per, we present an extended car-following model with consideration of the driver’s reaction time and distance. A new macroscopic model taking into account the driver’s reaction time and distance is developed using the relationship between the microscopic and macroscopic variables. The analytical results show that the increase of reaction time and distance, probably leads to more unstable traffic flow. The numerical results show that our model can reproduce the evolution of shock, rarefaction wave and small perturbation.
