Abstract

After some time nearly all surfaces in a natural environment get contaminated. Cleaning them requires high efforts; additionally, often surfactants are applied with negative effects on the environment [1]. Creation of self-cleaning superhydrophobic (SH) surface is a practical way to solve this problem. In overall, surfaces with high water contact angle (WCA) (>150) and low sliding angle (SA) (<10) are known as SH surfaces with self-cleaning property [2]. In this work, immersion in aqueous solution of ZnSO4 accompany with ultra sound injection resulted in wire like ZnO particles deposition. These nano-micro structures demonstrate SH characteristic after modification with biocompatible stearic acid modifier. Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) confirmed wire like structure of ZnO particle on iron substrate using ultrasound. The existence of stearic acid on SH iron can be proved using Fourier transform infrared in conjunction with attenuated total reflection (FTIR-ATR) investigation.
