Abstract Epilepsy as a complex neurologic disorder needs more investigation to find more effective clinical therapy. For such a purpose we need appropriate experimental models to exhibit epileptic symptoms similar to human epileptic disorders. In searching for neurologic effects of sodabi (haplophyllum Robustum) we found epileptiform convulsions after its injections. So, the purpose of this study was searching detailed substance doses, stages s of convulsions, comparison to PTZ and effects diazepam induced seizures. Methods and Materials haplophyllum Robustum plant collected from southeast of Iran. The leaves were dried and the hydro-alcoholic extract was prepared to administer in two experimental groups of male wistar rats, (250 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg). For control were used two groups (PTZ, 50 mg/kg injection and diazepam, 5 mg/kg before extract administration). All injections were intraperitonealy. Results 1 st experimental group (250mg/kg) showed partial convulsions (jerks in head and forelimbs), 5 min after injection that lasted for 30 minutes. In 2 nd experimental group (500 mg/kg), tonicclonic convulsions appeared 2 minutes after injection and lasted for longer period that final led to dead in all rats during one hour. The generalized seizures were similar to those in 3 rd group (PTZ) and stages of seizures were obviously separable and recordable. Diazepam injection could fully prevent all forms of convulsions in 4 th group (extract, 500mg/kg + diazepam, 5mg/kg). Discussion and Conclusion Results of this study showed that sodabi extract injection can appear epileptiform convulsions similar to PTZ and maybe presented as an experimental model of epilepsy. According to results of diazepam injection on induced seizures, we can propose that this extract may affect through GABAergic system. Keywords: Seizure, Sodabi, Diazepam, PTZ
