Jean-René Ladmiral, one of the founders of French translation studies, divided translation discourse into four. In this paper, we just discuss type III of his categorization, namely the productive discourse, in which he puts himself. The point is that we should refrain from any effort to provide an all-inclusive theory; instead, we should try to only present a segmental one. To be pragmatic is one of the characteristics of productive discourse of translation studies, a feature that we will discuss briefly. At the end, we will present types of translation according to Ladmiral’s categorization.
