Abstract
This paper deals with analysis of combined natural convection and volumetric radiation in a square enclosure containing an absorbing, emitting, and scattering medium using the lattice Boltzmann method. Unlike all previous studies, the proposed lattice Boltzmannmethod is used to compute both convective and radiative terms of the energy equation. The fluid flow, energy, and radiative heat transfer equations are solved by using separate distribution functions in the latticeBoltzmannmethod.This formulation regarding natural convectionwith andwithout radiation has been validated. Streamlines, isotherms, and centerline temperature are analyzed to investigate the influence of parameters such as Rayleigh number, extinction coefficient, and scattering albedo. It is found that the present lattice Boltzmann method not only provides accurate results but also decreases time consumption to a great extent.
