Abstract
In this paper, vortex shedding and flow structure around two circular obstacles in side-by-side arrangement are controlled numerically by means of a magnetic field. The governing equations consist of continuity and momentum equations are solved by SIMPLE algorithm under unsteady condition. Series of simulations were performed for a range of spacing ratios (1.6<T/D<4), Stuart numbers (0<Stu<5) and a fixed value of Reynolds number (Re=100). The effects of magnetic field strength and spacing ratios on the drag and lift coefficients, streamlines and vorticity contours are investigated in details. It was found that the drag coefficient has a minimum value at critical steadiness Stuart number. Moreover, there is 76.5% decrement in lift coefficient when the spacing ratio grows from 1.5 to 4 for Stu=0.
