Abstract

Flood is one of the natural disasters that has been occurred from olden times in Iran and its frequency has also been increased during recent years. Due to climatic conditions and flow regimes, there are more flood hazards in arid and semi-arid areas. Some problems due to flood destruction in these areas in the other hand and loosing water on the other hand illustrate the importance of flood control and management. To prevent the flood damages and choose the useful strategy for flood management, the study and recognition of sub-catchments with high flood risk (first priority) is necessary. Tezerjan catchment in shirkooh basin is one of these areas that has been located in semi-arid climate and without any hydrometry station. Then, in this research, we have prioritized its sub-catchments based on flooding and flood risk. For doing this, after collecting original information (physiography, vegetation, hydrology...), the peak discharge was calculated using SCS method. Following that, flood risk prioritization in subcatchments was studied based on six parameters and flood coefficient methods. Based on the results of this research, in both methods Barfkhaneh sub-catchment and central sub-catchment have maximum and minimum flood risk priority, respectively. In addition, there is no significant relation between peak flow and flood risk priority. This means that the sub-catchments with maximum peak flow have not high flood risk.
