Abstract

Abstract Purpose: The purpose of this article is evaluation of Google Scholar’s abilities and capabilities in the retrieval of the most-cited authors' information and publications under different versions of name. Method: The survey of method is appliced to collect the data from field and from library. The study population included 10 most-cited Authors in 5 scholar subject fields that are gathered from In-cite webpages via non-probability sampling. Different version of authors' name retrieval was adjusted with his publications check list. Findings: The recall result of 12 variables (The formula used in the authors' name search) show that just 4 of 10 case are more than the recall average and precision in the all of the variables, are less than the average level. Friedman test prioritize for recall and precision average show that no variable is better than others. Results of the student test for measuring of independent between 1-6 variables (different name of author without limiting to subject) show that there are not any difference between these two categories of variables but precision in 1-6 variables (different name of author without limiting to subject) is upper than the name limitation to subject. Overall, the results suggest that Google Scholar retrieves for various versions of author name is usually not desirable.
