The synthesis, spectral study and X-ray crystal structure of PS(NC5H10)3 phosphorothioic triamide (compound 1) and its dinuclear mercury(II) complex, [Hg{P(S)(NC5H10)3}Cl2]2 (compound 2), were investigated. The structure 2 is the first phosphorothioic triamide–mercury (II) complex with a P(S)[N]3–based ligand. It should be noted that from 88 complex structures deposited in the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD, version 5.37, May 2016) with phosphorothioic triamide ligands, only 15 structures include coordination of metal atoms to P(S) segment. The 31P{1H} NMR spectrum of compound 2 shows a singlet at 74.14 ppm which is slightly upfield shifted with respect to compound 1 (75.29 ppm). In the structure of ligand, the molecules are aggreagated through C–H…S=P contacts forming zigzag chains. In the structure of complex, the cumulative cooperation of C–H…S and C—H…Cl interactions leads to the formation of a two dimensional supramolecular grid. The C–H…S contact noted is within a (C–H…)(Hg...)S=P group.
