Abstract

Some zoonotic arthropod-borne diseases are endemic in the southeast Iran, monitoring of rodent populations and their ectoparasites will help to predict the potential risk of zoonotic diseases. In this survey, a total of 681 individuals ectoparasites were collected from 13 species of wild rodents in the southeast Iran. These ectoparasites belong to 11 species into 8 different genera including: fleas; Xenopsylla conformis, Xenopsylla gerbilli, Xenopsylla chaopis, Xenopsylla buxtoni, Nosopsyllus medus, Amphisylia spp., mites; Ornithonyssus bacoti, lices; Haploplura spp., Polyplax spp. and ticks; Rhipicephalus spp., Hyalomma spp. Among the fleas group X. gerbilli, N. medus and Amphisylla spp. is being the first record from this area. Among all ectoparasites species, Hoploplura(26.57%) and Amphisylia spp.(0.14%) had the high and low frequency infestation, respectively. Also, among the ectoparasites species, X.chaopis, O. bacoti and Hyalomma .spp are known as vectors of Plague, murine typhus and CCHF, respectively.
