Isothiosemicarbazone is one of the most important compounds as N2O2 donor ligands. The N2O2 donor ligands and their complexes are great importance in chemistry as they provide synthetic models for the metal-containing sites in metallo-proteins and metallo-enzymes and extensive catalytic and bioactive applications antimicrobial, antifungal, and antibacterial activities. Their biological potential has been thought to improve selectively certain biological systems due to their ability to chelate with trace metals. In this study,a new uranyl isothiosemicarbazone complex with supramolecular architecture and UO2L(OMe)propanol formula is synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR, thermogravimetry (TGA) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. We use the template reaction between allyl N'-2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidenecarbamohydrazonothioate. hydrogenbromide (H2L∙HBr),2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzaldehyde (OMe), U(VI) salt and an appropriate solvent as reagents to synthesis the target complex. 1H NMR spectra of the complex shows signal at 9.58 ppm corresponds to azometine (CH=N) proton which proves Schiff base formation of the ligand during the template reaction. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses suggests a distorted pentagonal bipyramidal geometry for this complex where the N2O2 tetradentate pocket of LOMe2- and the propanol oxygen atom (O7) forming the equatorial plane and the two uranyl oxygen atoms (O1, O2) fill the apical sites on the central ion. This complex tends to create dimers by hydrogen bondings between the OH group and the phenoxy oxygen atom of the tetradentate ligand in centro symmetrically-related molecule. This compound decomposes in a three step weight loss of the ethanol molecule, S-allyl separation, and the remaining organic part. The residual of this process corresponds to U3O8 remaining.
