Abstract

The present study argues that the relations between Iran and China are not essentially based on pivotal principles and clear-cut commitments, nor do their ties rest on tenuous thoughts and flimsy foundations devoid of any common interests in the short-term or well-conceived objectives in the long run. A concise survey of their bilateral interactions since the early 1980s shows that each country has adamantly attached to a policy of strategic ambiguity of sorts vis-à-vis the other party in order to better vouchsafe various critical interests at stake. It seems unlikely if the two countries are really prepared to fundamentally reconsider such approach any time soon since its benefits can still serve a whole host of new plans in their bilateral relationship, including the “One Belt, One Road” program.
