Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women. One of the common treatments for cervical cancer is External Beam Radiation Therapy (EBRT), which, if combined with chemotherapy, increases the efficacy of treatment. The aim of this study was to investigate the synergistic effects of radiation and cisplatin on the survival rate of HeLa cells, acervical cancer cell line. In this procedure, three different concentrations of cisplatin (in 2 treatment times) were combined with two doses of EBRT. The effects of these treatments were evaluated by MTT and clonogenic assay so as to determine the cell viability and colony forming efficiency of HeLa cells. As a result,cells treated with radiation and cisplatin showed a lower survival rate in comparison with cells that were only treated with radiation or cisplatin. Moreover, the statistical analysis revealed that the amount of this synergism depends on the dose rate, drug concentration, and the duration of the medication exposure before irradiation
