Title : ( System of Valuations in the Self-narrative of Foe's Susan Barton: A Fictional Case Study )
Authors: Zohreh Taebi Noghondari , Ammar AL Khafaji ,Abstract
Coetzee's fiction depicts both the necessity and the difficulty of the process of genuine structural change in a society like South Africa's. In Foe (1986) Coetzee paradoxically employs a marginalized character to give voice to the unspeakable collective trauma of slavery and places Coetzee among the trauma-novel writers. Given the fact that Trauma fiction includes postcolonial fiction in its concern with the recovery of memory and sympathy with the denied, the repressed and the forgotten along with the thematic concerns of Coetzee's fictions the present study is an attempt to demonstrate the isolated individuals in Foe function as compelling subversions of naked humanity granted universal insight on the stormy heath. To this end the author applies the "Valuation theory "By Hubert Hermans to give a theoretical form to the ‘society of the self’ and formulate the theoretical framework of the dialogical self so that the variety and potential richness of the voices can be detected to this end Hermans argues that personal position repertoire as a method for the investigation of the spatial realm of the self in such a way that insight is gained not only into the multiplicity of existing positions, but also into the more dynamic process of positioning, repositioning and being positioned in a variety of social situations as well as "Narratology theory " to study the voice of Susan Barton while tracing for marginality within feminism and postcolonial discourse in the work under the study.
