Abstract
This paper presents an improved design for waveguide based leaky wave antennas (LWAs) with discrete aperture to achieve a narrow beam and low sidelobe level (SLL). In this design a new formula for calculation of the required leakage constant is used. Then the geometrical parameters of the antenna are changed in such a way that the calculated leakage constant and a linear phase distribution are realized. Using the presented design method, a LWA with a Dolph_Chebyshev distribution, predefined sidelobe level of −30 dB and 9obeamwidth at 10 GHz is designed and simulated. Simulation results show a good agreement with theoretical results.
