Abstract

In this paper we consider the 2-D problem of determining the location of a PEC cylinder in an unknown host medium using the Kirchhoff-based shape reconstruction algorithm. Inaccurate estimation of the relative permittivity of the host medium affects the shape reconstruction algorithm performance. By analyzing this effect and knowing the shape of object, its position is determined. For this purpose the multi-monostatic configuration is employed in the algorithm, which is common in the commercial Ground-Penetrating Radars (GPRs). In addition the truncated singular-value decomposition (TSVD) method is used to solve the inverse problem obtained from the Kirchhoff approximation.
