Abstract

Urban drainage problems are serious concerns that affect most cities around the world. In developing countries these issues are usually worse than in other regions. Pervious pavements are sustainable urban drainage systems already known as rainwater infiltration techniques which reduce runoff formation and diffuse pollution in cities (Flávio Cesar Borba Mascarenhas and et al. 2007). This paper presents the study on two different pervious pavements for Mashhad, in Iran. The experimental results and discussion presented show that although concrete block has been mostly used as pervious pavement but Travertine could be more efficient. This pavement, which has been under experiment for the first time, is suitable to reach the desired goal, it could decrease the amount of Copper, Lead and Zinc for more than 90% and it could also play an important role in urban-flood management by 50% decreasing of stormwater
