Abstract
Innovative therapies e.g. gene therapy, somatic cell therapy, tissue-engineered products, and target drug delivery are all members of a great family of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs). In order to make the structure of ATMPs more effective, there is a need for a proper infrastructure in which the cellular, tissue, and organ processes smooth and coordinate their work. Studies show that brain, mind, and its cognitive activities can be considered as such infrastructure. In this paper the effect of cognitive science on having more effective advance therapy is discussed. Literature review ATMPs as innovative therapies are flourishing nowadays. This therapy which is at the scale of cell, tissue, and organ can be more effective when it is in the presence of the brain and mind coordination. In other words, cognitive process paves the way for having more effective advanced therapy. There are several works in this regard. Coping and adaptation using cognitive process with the emphasis on positive thinking, and empathy is mentioned as a vital player in turning off the cancer disease effect. Moreover, the relation between poor or inadequate sleep is studied. Also it is shown that cognitive impairment negatively affects the quality of life, and optimal cancer care is provided using the cognitive impairment management. Cognitive rehabilitation is also another tool for having effective therapy. Mind body therapies (MBT) that consider both mental and physical dimensions, focuses on the relationship between brain, mind, body behavior and effects on health and disease. Barriers and facilitators of the use of MBT, and defining its type e.g. praying as a conscious MBT, is also studied. Furthermore, using functional genomics and neuroimaging, the mind-body connection and how these can influence health outcomes are studies. Result show that functional genomic and neurophysiological correlates of MBTs change the sympathetic nervous system activation of gene transcription factors which are involved in immune function and inflammation. MBT also have effect on efficacy of surgery and can be considered as a pre-surgical treatment. Studies in the reverse way of effect of stem cell therapy on the cognitive functions also have been done in several works. Conclusion ATMPs as innovative therapies need to be accompanied with a therapeutic framework that use both body and mind. Here, the intersection of ATMPs and cognitive sciences is studied in order to reach an effective therapy.
