Abstract
Using the thermal induced phase separation -TIPS- and non-solvent induced phase separation -NIPS- are the most common methods to fabricate polymeric porous membranes. Each method has own advantages and disadvantages. In NIPS method, dope solution preparation is not a complicated process if we have a suitable diluent to solve the polymer at a temperature less than 100℃. However, it is impossible to find a suitable solvent for all polymer to make a homogenous solution. TIPS method in compare with NIPS has some advantages such -1- membrane with Freemicrovoids structure can prepare with TIPS method -2- narrow pore size distribution -3- The TIPS method can produce PVDF membranes with superior mechanical strength -4- easy to scale up to industrial scales. TIPS method has less controlling parameters thus it is easier to manipulate the process. In conclusion, it is important to select an appropriate method for membrane fabrication considering the properties of the final product.
