Camels are hardy animals with a unique physiological constitution that can tolerate the harsh conditions of arid regions, these animals face a wide variety of diseases.For many centuries camels have represented an important tool of economic development for entire countries. Despite the introduction of mechanized transport, the changes in life lifestyle and evolution of new culture, one may observe a renewed interest in the camel in the recent past. The camel still plays a vital socioeconomic role and supports the survival of millions of people in the semi – dry and arid zones, it is our obligation to safeguard the present and future role of these faithful animals. Today, Concomitant with this increase in numbers and ownership, a great surge has occurred in the demand for veterinary services for these unique animals. Many veterinarians are concerned about being able to provide quality healthcare to these species because of a lack of foundation in the traditional veterinary education programs.As a result, the demand for veterinary services far exceeds the supply of veterinarians willing and able to provide these services. With few exceptions, camel diseases are very similar to domestic ruminant diseases. The diagnosis approach is also similar, although physical examination and interpretation of laboratory data may present some challenges for veterinarians not familiar with this species. The objective of this lecture is to describe the clinical examination methods and infectious disease control in the form of bio security, vaccination, and health testing that should be included in any farm’s herd-health plan.
