Abstract

In this study, separation of organic solvents was experimentally investigated using partial pressure driven membrane pervaporation -PV- process. Accordingly, thin film composite -TFC- membranes were prepared via interfacial polymerization -IP- for separation of methanol -MeOH-/methyl-tert-butyl ether -MTBE- mixture -20/80-. The experiments were designed to properly evaluate the effects of various concentration ratio -1-20- of amine/acyl chloride on the performance of polyamide -PA- TFC membrane. Also, polyethersulfone -PES- membrane was considered as stable support layer in this study. The results showed that the PA-TFC membranes which were prepared with the concentration ratio of 5 of amine/acyl chloride monomers had the best separation factor -up to 37.72- and acceptable permeate flux -0.287 kg.m-2.h-1- in organic solvents pervaporation.
