Abstract

A new design of induced-charge electrokinetic micromixer is proposed. The micromixer has a mixing-chamber with conductive surfaces. Circular, square, triangular, and rhomboid chambers are considered to study the effects of mixing-chamber geometries. Moreover, the mixing-chamber with one conductive surface and two conductive surfaces are compared. The effects of conductive edges, mixing-chamber size, and electric field strength on the mixing process and mass transfer are investigated. The results show that the proposed micromixer is very simple to fabricate and hence, it is appropriate for microfluidic applications. The micromixer with rhomboid mixing-chamber with one conductive surface and conductive edges has best mixing efficiency, about 95%, among the other cases.
