Introduction: Current therapeutic approachesfor esophageal cancer are chemical drugsand radiotherapy, however, rate of morbidity and mortality of this malignancy is growing. The purposeof present study was to determine whether ellagic acid derivatives could enhanceefficacy of radiotherapyin esophageal cancercells. Methods: To do so, KYSE30 cells were treated with 20 μM of urolithin a (UA), urolithin b (UB) and methylated UA (mUA) for 24, 48, 72and 96 h. Then, radiation was applied in different doses, 2, 4 and 6 Gry, and viability of cells was assed48 h after combinatorial treatments. Results: MTT results revealedthat UA increased toxicity of 2 Gry radiation up to 67.02%. Moreover, pretreatment of cells with mUA increased toxicity of 6 Gry radiation by 11.2%.In addition, calculated increased toxicity of 4 Gry radiation by UA was 7.00%Conclusion: In order to enhance efficacy of radiation in esophageal cancer cells, weevaluated effects of ellagic acid derivatives in combination with radiotherapy. Our findings revealed increased toxicity of 2, 4 and 6 Gry radiation by UA and mUA.
