Abstract

BACKGROUND: Anaplasmosis is caused by an obligate intracellular, gram negative germs belonging to family Anaplasmatacea that can be transmitted by ticks and other arthropods. OBJECTIVES: The present study was aimed to investigate the infection status of Anaplasma spp. infection by using microscopy and molecular method in the dromedarian camels in Bushehr province, Iran. METHODS: In the present study, 139 blood samples from dromedary camels were collected in Bushehr province. Giemsa staining and nested-PCR were conducted to investigate the presence of Anaplasma infection in the dromedarian camels. RESULTS: 27 (19.4%) out of the total 139 blood samples were suspected for the presence of Anaplasma spp. by morphological study. PCR and nested-PCR sequencing results showed 111(80%) and 134 (96%) positive samples in the presence of Anaplasma spp. and performing BLAST search in NCBI GenBank showed 100% identity with Candidatus Anaplasma camelii. CONCLUSIONS: The molecular results showed the high frequency of Candidatus Anaplasma cameli in the camels, in Buscher area
